Fish Room Build Question
I had a room built in my basement that will be used as a fish room, it's about 12x12.
I wasn't thinking and had the contractor put up regular sheetrock. Do I need to have it taken down and have green board put up? Is there any kind of sealant I can use instead of taking it all down? Do you all just use regular sheetrock or the green board?

My fishroom is 8x10 and is green board. I run my central air 24/7 to turnover the air in my fishroom. In retrospect, I would have used vent fans on a sensor but that is not an option I want to use . Running the blower fan on the central air makes little difference on the bill nor on the longevity of the motor. I've tried it without the central air on continuosly and the humidity builds quickly in my fishroom. What's the cost to replace with green board?

Green board typically runs one to 2 bucks a sheet more than typical sheet rock. You may be able to just get a thinner layer of sheet rock (I think it comes in 1/4 inch thick) and just sheet rock over the stuff in place. It would be the same. The green board would stop the moisture from getting to the standard board......

As of right now there is no vent fan, but that is on the list for my winter projects.
The cost to replace the sheetrock probably wouldn't be much, maybe $40 and half a days work. Just would be a pain in the ___ and my wife would not be happy.

I would bite the bullet and have it changed now. You may regret it in the future and the replacement will be much more expensive and time consuming. If you are averse to the little added expense, at least use a couple layers of good oil based paint. Then really seal the edges where the drywall meets the floor with caulk ... Just what I would do.
