Hey RC'S!!!newbie and with a few questions..
Hey guys,
i'm new to the hobby and got myself a 40g TruVu acrylic tank and have a few questions that i like to ask and hopefully i get an answer that can direct me to what i need to do to get my tank setup. i seen other peoples tank having an over-flow either built in or a hang on the back. which is a better way or setup ? i have hear there were issue with a brand call CPR on their over flow. now is an over a must have and what is it purpose in the Reef tank or any tank of that matter? i also seen some tank with drilled hole and have it plumbed down to the sump, now is that the same as an over flow but just a different way of doing it? here is how and what i have as far as getting my tank setup... **40g TruVu (acrylic) **either a 20g or 30g glass tank for sump/refuge **40lbs of caribsea sand Future purchases: **-/+40lbs live rocks **reef optopus skimmer **pvc pipes **T5 or MH lighting **(2) powerhead what else do i need? thanks in advance for any opinion/comment/etc.. |

Get the tank drilled. HOB will probally cause a flood sooner or later.
Some people will chime in and say they have used a HOB for years with no flood, but they are the exception. IMO the HOB is like drunk driving. Just waiting for the accident!

You need an Internal Overflow. Water flow over the top of the overflow and into the sump. A pump in the sump will then pump the water back into the tank.
This site explains the sump: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1207729 Go here and look at the entire build but there are great pictures of the overflow on page 3
