Quieting your system

Hello all,

My aquarium is in my living room, and complaints are piling up on the noise of the tank. my mag 7 pump is just sitting on glass in the sump tank and I think that a majority of the noise is from there. I bought a giant o-celo sponge for the pump to sit on to create less vibration and when I opening the packaging it said on the label NOT FOR AQUARIUM USE. So i didnt use it. Any suggestions? The family would be happy. Thanks

Earplugs for the family.

If that doesn't work try a plain old mouse pad between the pump and glass.
Also, make sure you have some flexible tubing connecting your hard PVC lines to your pump.

I use a couple of silicone pot holders under mine and I don't hear any vibrations from my return pump.

Like these

Under those I also found a couple of bathtub suction cup things they have suction cups on both sides they should work too. Found them at Wally-World I have no idea what they were suppose to be used for but they worked under the pump. Found them in the housewares area.

this is kinda weird and out of the way for some people but i had some extra lying around my garage so i used it...

use dynamat... its the material used to line the inner panels of a car to deaden sound... there's a company called elemental designs http://www.edesignaudio.com/index.php?cPath=1_24 and they're way cheaper... they have this stuff called eDead 45 which is a thick mat with an adhesive backing... all i did was line the insides of my cabinet with it and it baffles most of the noise out... you can layer as much as you want to get the most out of it... i mean its only $1/sq-ft

its a like a recording booth, sometimes i have to open the doors to make sure everything is actually on bc its so quiet

+1

Internal are more convenient IMO but also tend to be much louder.

If possible move the sump with the equipment to a different room. Plumb it thru the wall or basement or something to that effect. You can have a near silent DT that way.

I use a filter to put under my Eheim 1260. Got a recommendation from a similar post I made.

Pretty good idea. Does anything leech into the water from the ziplock?
