Will brittle starfish climb out of a tank?
As I am looking right now, my 24incher is up on the glass at the tippity top.
It has been two hours since the actinic lights have been off. I keep checking, but I do not see it penetrating above the water surface. Will it climb out?

Thats a big star. It is possible, but unless it is unhappy, it is not likely to make the 'plunge' into the air. If something went bad in the tank though like the heater stuck on, that thing would probably be found on the floor. It may even poke around to see if there is another 'pool' nearby, but doubtful anything more than an arm over the edge.

It might, I have/had an 8" brittle in an 5 gal HOB fuge on a 55. I went to feed it about a month ago and didn't see him. He is now in the main tank. My return to the DT is screened so the only way he could of got in there was to climb over the rim and drop into the DT. So, yes they will climb out of a tank.

It happened to drop back down after about 15min.
I did have a spike in nitrites. The tank was set up for 5 yrs. I just bought it and moved it to my home on friday. I will have to keep an eye for them. There are literally thousands of babies, most about the size of a quarter. In every hole, crevis, you name it, they are there.

Mine have climbed up on the glass as well when I first setup the tank but I barely see them anymore now that the tank is pretty established. I don't believe I ever saw them put any part out of the water, just close.
