Coral suggestions for newbie

Hi gang,

I've been in the marine tank arena for some time now, however I would still consider myself a newbie when it comes to corals. So far I have an open brain coral and pulsing xenia that are both doing really well. Are there any other types of coral that I could look at that are not too demanding? My parameters are:

salinity 1.2048
temp 79
pH 8.3
alk 3.5 meq/L
Ca 400ppm
Mg 1250-1300ppm

thanks

Zoa/zoo's are really nice and easy to care for. Frogspawn/hammer coral are pretty easy to deal with as well. How much is the xenia spreading on you, cause that stuff can spread like wildfire :P

The always recommended to newer folks zoo, mushrooms, and leathers all of which can add a ton of color to a tank and are easy, almost to the point of being care-free. Unless you know how to or want to learn how to frag watch out for green stars, they spread like mad!

I'm guessing that salinity is a typo. The specific gravity of seawater is 1.0264. Most people shoot for 1.025 or 1.026

What he said.

How bout some florida ricordia? They are cool and can be neat in a nice little garden setup in a lower corner

I concur that rics and zoas are probably the most colorful additions you can add to a "beginner" tank.

Hey guys,

Yeah sorry, I meant 1.0248. Thanks for the replies. My xenia hasn't spread yet but I have only had it for a week. By the way I forgot to mention I have T5 nova extreme pro for lighting.

my xenia has been in my 55 gal and doesnt spread much at all. Started with a rock full and it moved from that rock, but hasnt spread hardly any at all.

Any soft corals are great for beginners...
