Tunze 6055 Voltage

I have two Tunze 6055s and the 7095 multicontroller. I noticed that each of the 6055s have a voltage setting on them. 12-24V. Does this mean that 24V is faster than 12V? Also, when attached to the 7095 is this overridden or not? It seemed that when I had them set at 24V they made a humming noise, so I lowered them to 20V. Any ideas?

Set 24v for full power and 12V for half power.
