29g CUC
I was wondering if I could get some input on a CUC for my 29g. Right now I have two electric damsel and a snail that I can't seem to find anywhere. The snail was hiding on the lr when i bought it at the lfs.

In my 28g, I plan to have 15 scarlet legged hermit crabs, and 30 snails, mostly cerith and turbo, etc.
I'm a newbie so I'm no expert. I saw the recommendation on another website. I hear some folks believe that hermits eat snails but I heard that the small scarlets usually leave snails alone. Plus, visually I like hermits and don't like snails so it's a personal choice to keep hermits just as pets and have snails as just CUC. I plan to have a few peppermint shrimp to control any aiptasia that might appear. Plus, they're cute and interesting. |

Yeah thats way to much! Dont follow the rule that you see in some sites like one snail per gallon. They will just starve to death lol. I would start with 5 hermits and 5 snails. Then add a few more as needed. Research the species as well some hermits are very aggressive and can kill the snails.

For both of your tanks, I would recommend the following:
-5+ Astraea Snails -1+ Turbo Snails -3+ Nassarius Snails -1 Cleaner or Peppermint Shrimp Brittle Stars, Pods, Etc. will come from the LR + LS and will thrive in time. Hermits are a PITA and don't do a ton. JMO, hope this helps!

Hi,
In my 70 Gal Reef type tank I only keep 1 sandsifting star ( archaster typicus ), 2 cleaner shrimps ( lysmata amboinensis ), about 7 red legged hermit ( paguristes cadenati ) and 1 strombus ( strombus gigas/allatus (not sure) ). There used to be more strombus but hermits liked their shells..... ( if going for snails be careful with their size as not too be attacked by hermits...). They are doing a good job, do not starvate and the reef and substrate is clean. Hope this help !!! |
