Is the purple pinwheel worth it?
I run an octo extreme 200 (msx) with a mesh mod. The performance seems to be pretty good, but I'm always looking to get the most out of my equipment.
Is the purple pinwheel worth the 30 odd bucks? |

Some people report startup problems with them. I'd be pretty unhappy running a PW with startup issues.

The ppw is supposed to be the remedy for startup issues along with producing finer and more bubbles. I use one im my Sicce pump and wouldnt consider going back to the stock one... Yes, I think its worth it.

I think it is worth it. I ran mesh on my Octo extreme 200 and had start up issues but with the PPW no problems. There was a big difference between the stock pin wheel and the purple pin wheel. If you do not mind messing with a mesh wheel then don't switch, but for me I like the PPW.

I think it depends on the pw you run or mesh. If you have startup probs with mesh i'd change to a pw. The ppw has had some startup issues. The red demon has not and supposedly pulls more air. If you run the octo pw it pulls around 17-20scfh, if you run the msx/swc pw it runs at 28-32scfh, if you run the ppw it pulls around 34-36scfh, the red demon runs 34-38scfh. So i'd pry replace the octo one with the red demon or ppw, but it just depends on what pw you run : )

I replaced the origonal mesh wheel with the new PPW in my old old 200 external recirc. that has a fairly new otp-3000 pump.
It has solved the start up issue for me but I didn't see very much difference in performance. edit; so, all-in-all, worth it. |

Defiantly no start up issues. I shut my skimmer pump three times a week to clean the cup and never had one start up issue with the large PPW.

I just ordered 2 of the large PPW, and a set of the new MSX reducers for my MSX300.
