Can anyone recommend something for this?
Can anyone recommend a good book, website, youtube video or whatever have you, for a beginner aquarist trying to set up a new tank.....Main focus here is plumbing. I am trying to figure out how to plumb my tank and refugium together. What sort of pump I will need, quiet pumps, good protein skimmers but first I want to research on plumbing

To Reef Central You're in the right place right here. Pretty much every aspect of building and maintaining marine aquaria can be found here. Biggest problem IMO, a buttload of information to process. Just take your time, relax, read, and ask lots of questions that will pertain to your specific ideas.

IMO there are no good books on setting up plumbing/fuges/skimmers. Your best bet is spending a lot of time here reading posts and looking at pics that other people have done and then look for a reef club in your area and tour some of there houses to get better ideas. Then after a couple months you will be able to incorperate what you have learned into a plan and then you can submit that here for people to give you feed back.
There are some great books pertaining to maintaining your tank. |

http://www.marinedepot.com/Danner_Ma...DN1129-vi.html OR a Red Dragon Pump like this: http://www.fishsupply.com/roexreddrpu.html The main difference you'll notice is the price but what you learn from experiance is that with the better pumps you get longer life, more reliability, less transfer of heat to the water. A Red Dragon pump might run you $850 but choosing to go with a cheaper pump may force you to have to buy a chiller which could run you over $1000 so its important to look at all that. The exact same goes for skimmers, you can buy cheap skimmers or the Ferrari of skimmers like the Bubble King Skimmers which run you around $1000. http://www.fishsupply.com/bukiprsk.html For plumming just search the 'Large Reef Tank' section of this forum and have a look around. Some of those tanks have pretty interesting plumming which could give you a better idea of exactly what you want for your tank. I know this is a brief post but to be honest there is no real right or wrong answer. Theres what works best for you, your tank and your pocket book and most things are learned through trial and error. Hope this helps |

Plumbing is as easy of complex as you make it. Do you want a whole pipe system with ornate and variable valving or do you want just basic up and down plumbing? Hardlined top off/waste water or will you just fill a bucket? Check out the big build threads, a lot of them extensively cover how they are plumbing their tanks. |
