Mushroom Care....
I have a 75 gallon with T5 lighting. (4x54 watts). I have 4 Koralia 3's for flow. Is this too much light for mushrooms? I have some red mushrooms that seem to be doing fine but my green mushrooms dont seem too happy. Do red and green mushrooms have different needs/likes?
They are in the same area of the tank. They are in a pretty low flow area also. They are positioned near the bottom of the tank. Should I have them in a shaded area or should they be fine under 216 watts of T5 near the bottom? Thanks |

They all have a little bit of different needs. The best way to tell if they are happy is, are the extended out? If not, than it could be flow. They don't care for getting blasted by flow. Also I would say the mushrooms depend on what kind of lighting was in the previous tank they were in. You can always just move them into the more half shade and see if they like it. Just more of a taste test. But you gotta leave them in the area you put them for atleast a day to get results.

Thanks Conrad. I think I may have a little too much flow for them. I will have to try them in a different spot.

That could be it also. My water is extremely clean. Also, I don't have any fish in there yet. Just some inverts and some corals. So I am not currently feeding the tank. I have a few fish in my QT tank which are about 3 weeks away. Perhaps they will look better when the water has a little more in it.

lol mushrooms dont liek dirty water, mine are doing great, and my water is perfectly clean. They DO NOT like high flow areas. Lighting might be an issue if you brought them from a tank with low lighting to your tank and put them in a high lighting area. Mine are all over my tank though, just not in high flow areas.

I will tell you that my red shroom has ALWAYS been the one that extends and my green ones and blue ones are always "flat". This was like this even in the original owners tank. I think they just physically look different, at least in my case.

When you say extends do you mean almost pointing up? My reds look great but they seem somewhat flat..meaning they dont really curl up. They definitely extend and get way bigger when the lights are on but the perimeter seems to stay on the rock. They get huge though. My greens really dont get bigger or extend up. I think it is probably a too much flow issue. And perhaps they just are physically different.
