Aqua C EV - 180 or Aqua C EV - 240 for a 75gal. tank?
What do you think?
I want to keep about 15 small fishes (3" to 5" max.) in it. Last edited by A. Grandis; 11/10/2009 at 10:36 PM. |

180
I run a 180 in my 90 gallon (lightly stocked). I'd go with that unless you plan on expanding later. The 180 strips everything out of that 90 consitantly with the mag-7 pump

Iīve heard that the mag 7 sometimes are not enough for the 180. Good to know... Anyone else? Please let me know... The difference in price is not that much. |

I have a EV-120 on my 75 gallon with a Mag 5 pushing it dominated with SPS....works great, but I would definitely not over-skim with a 240...but perhaps a 180.

By 3-5" max I hope you meant 0.5-1" max which is still pressing for a 75g. No skimmer is going to make up for innappropriate stocking but generally speaking EV-180 is more than enough for any 75g.

I did okay with an EV-120 in my 75. I ran it with a mag 5 at first, then a mag 7 - which was much better.
An EV-180 would have been better still, I'm sure, but an EV-240 is probably unnecessary, IMHO. |

Thank you so much all of you. Now I know that the 240 is too much.
I decided to get the 180. I´ll probably not put 15 fishes, but maybe 8 to 10 fishes. Now... where is the best place to buy online? I'm looking for the 180 with the Mag 7. Thanks again!! Cheers. |

If you are going with the EV180 consider the Eheim 1262 instead of the Mag7. It has proven to be one of the the best combination with this skimmer.

The EV series seems to be limited by the pump driving the water as much as skimmer size IMHO. I would bet that a 120 with a nice external pump like an Iwaki would be more than sufficient. I ran a 180 with an E-heim 1262 for about a year or so on my 215 and it worked reasonably well even on that large of a tank. It would be more than sufficient for a very heavily stocked 75 gallon tank IMHO.

I would like to know about the AquaC auto waste container too. Is that worthy? What if we put any container to get the waste? Anybody? |

For a EV180 any 900ish GPH pum p will work, weather that be a mag 9, eheim 1262, RIO3100. As far as waste collection. I have never used one. Mine just drained to a 5 gallon bucket. It would be nice to have it if your skimmer started overflowing and you were asleep or at work. The collection cup would stop it once its full. I only had it happen once and I caught it before there was any issue. |

I didnīt knw that the waste collector would stop when full, thatīs really nice!!! Still very expensive! I canīt deal with Rios anymore. The last experience with them was about 5 years ago when I saw the thing getting on fire in the tank!!! Some of them gives shocks when you touch the water, if they are running. They are really bad pumps. Iīm sorry, but thatīs my experience... Well, I think Iīll get the Eheim 1262 with the 180 skimmer. Still waiting to know from others where to find a good price. My searches are about 500.00 for both... Thanks! |
