Is my live sand stil alive?
I have a bucket of sand with my tank water there, sitting for almost like 3 months now, can I still use it? Or should I wash them before putting into the tank? It was from my old 90G, display tank sand bed.

I'd say wash it, but then again, my tank sat empty for about that long, and I didn't wash my sand when I got the tank up and running again... But I had filtration and a skimmer running the whole time, so if it's just been sitting in a bucket that long, you might as well consider it done for and wash it and get a bit of good live sand from the LFS to mix in with it to get it going again. Best of luck.

When my last tank failed I kept all of my sand in a 50 gallon brute can for a couple of months. I dumped it in with the new sand when I upgraded and there was still little things crawling around the tank in days.
Some of it is most likely 'live' and some of it most likley smells really foul and will help your tank cycle.

It will be really, really, really nasty. I would either trash it, or soak in a bleach/water solution and rinse it several times. I wouldn't want to start out with ugly gray sand.

Yeah not worth the risk, I agree with the others.
