i have a Presision Marine sump measures 36"Lx14"Wx16"H. divided into 3 compartments, left is from tank with 2 filter socks and skimmer, middle is refugium, and right side is return area.

This is what it looked like new.

This is a Magnavore WD-125 sump with Eheim 1262 pump and CS220 skimmer:

The blue cannisters house Seachem de-nitrate and activated carbon. The filter socks are changed weekly.

Uncleof6 has posted a bunch of sump info. I pretty much followed his design which was probably in part borrowed from Melevsreef. Works very well.

the pm sump above is a rock solid design, double filtration with that build.

Entirely Melev's design. There are a couple I can claim modification rights to, but most are based on something Melev did. The plumbing is mine however.

If possible I would try to place the return area (pump return to display tank) as far away as possible from the skimmer. Also, lots of people do it but it would make me nervous to restrict and direct overlow from the tank to two seperate areas (ie. refugium and skimmer area). Any obstruction in the line such as a partially closed valve is a great place for buildup to start forming and eventually catch something like a snail on its way down.... However, if you have more than one overflow then this is a non-issue!

Naw, with good drain design, a good skimmer, and a bubble trap, the center return works just fine. The design i just posted meets your criteria I believe.

I can attest to that. No bubbles, works great.
