Let me see your coral pics with your point and shoots cameras (stay away DSLRs!)
The idea sparked in me reading another thread to see some people's pics with their point and shoot cameras that they consider to be nice. Mainly zoomed in shots of corals, fish, etc. Let's see some of those pics with the model of the camera (and maybe even a Best Buy or other store link!)

Is it more to see a true depiction of the corals color without being doctored (photoshopped)?

Not a coral, but a point and shoot. Canon powershot A1000 IS. The picture was -1 stop. I find thats the key with the point and shoots, when they have the option, otherwise they tend to wash out.

These are very nice for a point and shoot. Any advice on camera settings to get those nice pics?

These are some really old pictures, but were all taken with my old point and shoot. And since they are so old, you will have to ignore the algae issues.
An anemone, but a cool shot anyways.

I suppose I should add that MY goal is to buy a decent PS camera that can take some pics... around $200 range. That is why I am asking for model numbers here

Try to avoid big box stores as well, your neighbourhood camera store will have far more knowlegable people that will be willing to walk you through your choices. Plus, they usually have pretty similar pricing to the BB stores. I haven't looked into P&S in a while so I cant recommend anything new, but your best bet is to go to the store and find out what you like best. edited bit: dont be concearned with megapixels by too much. if you find a camera that has what you are looking for but is say, 2 less megapixles then a camera with less features, you aren't sacrificing much by dropping MP's unless you intend to make large prints of your shots.

If I purchaced my camera equipment new, I would be in the SLR price range. I have what I consider to be one of the best p&s cameras along with a custom underwater housing. My best pictures are from a submerged vantage point. I get good images thru the glass, but nothing compared to going "diving". It would be beneficial to build or buy a top down photo box if your camera isnt able to go in the water.
Also I almost always shoot on manual mode so I can compose the picture how I want. Its pretty cool to set up on a tripod at night with just the night lights and no room light and set a 30 second shutter speed.
