i have heard some really good thing about rods food the only thing is like any food it will add a little PO4 and you dont want to rinse the rods food either because it and small photoplancton in it and you will wash it away.

My fish LOVE Rogger's food. I bought it from him at the last frag swap. I believe he is or was the president of the Florida Marine Aquarium Society and that he's a chef. A lot of locals use his food. That said, I also use PE Mysis.

I tried Rods food. It has a variety of ingredients. One thing I did not like was that one day you will get giant pieces of squid or whatever and the next day you will get mush.

PE Mysis is Mysis shrimp and it's regarded as the best quality mysis available. Plain old mysis shrimp. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but for optimum health I think that our fish need a heck of a lot more variety than mysis. I use Rod's and love it. There's food in there for everything in your tank - fish, corals and inverts. I'd certainly recommend Rod's (or any other blend like it). I feed my 185g one to two times a day. Every other or every third time I feed PE mysis, but I feed Rods mostly the other times.

You mean ...variety? Like in the ocean?
Seriously i understand - you want more consistancy to the mix.

So PE Mysis...well it is just Mysis, like Brine Shrimp are just Brine Shrimp. Fair enough - thanks for the input!

See my post that hit about the same time you posted. PE Mysis is just mysis shrimp and it can't be compared to Rods food or other similar mixes. Mysis shrimp is just one of the many ingredients in Rods and while mysis is good food for our fish, feeding it exclusively is like us just eating chicken our whole life.

Rod's is awesome. I don't know if I would use it as an every day food, solely based on cost... stuff isn't cheap by any means.

I have a few local frozen mixes, Rod's Food, Frozen Hikari Mysis, Frozen Ocean Plankton, Prime Reef Flake, NLS Pellets, and Formula 2 Flakes.

I swap out between all of those to vary the diet of all of my fish. The only food item I feed on consecutive days is Nori.

Just make your own food.

At least then you'll know exactly what's in it. It's very cheap to do and obviously fresh. You can control particle size nicely. Shrimp works really well as a binder.

PE Mysis is the best mysis I've fed. All mysis food is not the same. Apparently there's marine mysis and freshwater mysis. I believe PE is freshwater mysis.

But, like others have said, variety is a good thing.

It sounds like Roger is a serious reefist and knows how to handle food. Keep it local, buy his.

I've completely phased out evry other reef food.
Exclusively i feed Rogger's blend for many many reasons, must importantly ingredients.

Over the years I've made my own as well as tried many " brand names" and the problems I've seen is mainly fillers and water quality.

As I had the opportunity to see how the food is made and the ingredients in Roggersreeffood IME there's no better brand.

There's no fillers and the mix includes: shrimp/squid/lobster/mysis/aloe/selcon/garlic/cyclopeeze/selcon/clam I thimk thats all of the top of my head.

What really impresses me about this mix is its composition- I feed it thru a clip and there's no waste since the food stays compact and its not all over the place giving each fish a chance to eat while the residuals are in the water column for corals, there's no chunks of free food floating around.

There's no nutritional value to PE alone.

Finicky eaters such as regals/moorish idols/copperbands and others than IME where almost impossible to feed 20 years ago I've fed this blend and they eat non-stop.
The food is local but many of my long time reefing friends outside of FL are using it with great results, and I would not doubt that the food will be all over the country in no time.
My two cents.

+1 on Rogger’s Fish Food but must admit I am a little bias because I have seen Rogger’s tanks over the years and know his special food blend is one of his secret weapons for keeping a diverse range of fish healthy over long periods of time. A professional chef, Rogger has been able to apply his great knowledge of fish nutritional requirements, experience in food preparation and great contacts for supply of fresh ingredients into a perfect blend. Rogger has been in the food industry for over 15 years even had a very successful restaurant in famous South Beach.

Those of us lucky to know Rogger down here have been reaping the benefits for years due to his willingness to share his food and knowledge with fellow hobbyist, now that the food is commercially available is great, we do not have to keep asking “when are you making a new batch?”

I agree with all the above posters regarding Rogers food. Its great stuff and has no fillers which is the main selling point for his food over others. A lot of the other food blends add in filler ingredients like carrots, broccoli, lettuce or anything to fill in space and save on money. Rogers is pure no water added & no filler which is what makes the difference.

I use both his blends exclusively and my fish love it. Even my new Ventralis anthia is pigging out on the stuff.

Also I am sure he will be expanding his food further out into the US real soon so be on the look out .

To confirm one thing, the difference between PE Mysis is that it is freshwater shrimp and they tend to be at least double the size of marine mysis. IME

So for us that do not know Rogger...would he ship his food??

If you go to his website, under stores, there's a link to an online store that carries his food.
