Question for the electricians
If i am buying the everyday run of the mill T12's or T8's fom petco or petsmart, is there any reason that they can not be placed is a fixture from homedepot and still work?

So long as the wattage of the bulbs matches what the fixture calls for, you will be good to go.

If its going over water make sure you have waterproof endcaps. Other than that no problems as long as they match what the home depot ballast is rated for.

FYI you can overdrive hd shop lights to get some intense light out of a cheap bulb. I did it to my garage and everybody comments about how bright it is in there . Realistically it is about 50% brighter.
Makes my car feel special to have its own over driven lights.
