Anyone have books close to your tank?

I have a 75g tank, and a book shelf 3ft from the tank. They are actually my Dad's and he is all upset and says the salt will ruin his books. Is that true?

Does anyone else have books close to there tanks for a long amount of time with no damage?

I would inform your father that salt doesn't evaporate (that's why we top off with fresh water). Depending on your tank and how much you splash water around, he may have a valid concern about water.

That'd be some pretty heavy duty salt creep to jump 3ft from the tank! I'd think the increased humidity (if any) would be more of a concern than salt.

I have an endless amount of magazines and books near my tank and have never had any problems with them getting ruined...

I wouldn't be concerned at all.

I can't imagine how the books would even be damaged over time. The only possibilities are salt spray and extreme heat from lighting, if close enough.

If you have a canopy I can't imagine how there would be any issue. Heck, even if you have an open top tank, I can't see how they would be affected.

I agree, the salt shouldn't be an issue but depending on the ventilation of your room moisture might be. I would be surprised if you had water damaging the books at that distance unless this is an in a completely closed room with no windows or means of ventilation.

My tank stands are custom built/furniture grade, and IS a bookcase/dvd storage , now in use over 5 years...with no problems, I'm been so happy with it, that my new 450g tank/stand is also a bookcase...you can see in on my build thread on MR

i keep all my aquarium books next to my 240G tank and i have had no problems at all.

Same, lots of books close to my tanks and no problem. It is only a problem if your tank is in a small room with the books and no air conditioning.
