Skimmer upgrade, opinions/experiences: Super Reef Octopus 6000EXT or ETSS 900XR?
Think I've pretty much narrowed it down to one of these two. About the same cost, similar ratings. Tank is in the basement, so space and /or noise are not issues.

Anyone? Interested in reliability, ease of adjustment, ease of cleaning, and overall ease of maintenance. And, of course, how well they skim.

Just got the 5000 Ext. Having it break in in my sump of my system now.The build quality is good.Very quiet, pump pulls lots of air, fills the body nice.Easy to adjust, there is a gate valve for the exit.I'm using an Eheim 1260 for the feed pump, it needs to be cut back a little , with a gate or ball valve. It also has a drain on the bottom with a ball valve to empty most of the body.Only had it set up about 4 days, but pulling some tea colored stuff out, even with my other large skimmer running. I would buy one again based on what I have seen. Pretty good bang for the buck so far.HTH's

But admittedly I don't know too much about them, esp as far as maintenance, or performance . |

Yep. Same here. Dunno. Maybe I should just stick with what I know works.
