Single most expensive item in your tank?

Single piece of livestock and equipment? and how much did it cost you?

My most expensive coral was 2- #1 was a wild Pink Stylophora colony that got eaten by my Flame Angle. #2 was a small colony of A. Suharsonoi. They both cost $160. And they are both dead now.

Since you said "in" the tank, it would have to be my blue Haddoni carpet anemone -- $300. Outside of the tank, either my Current Outer Orbit (( 2*250 + 4*54 T5 )) over my 75 or my Hamilton (( 2*250 + 2*96 PC -- upgraded to Galaxy ballasts for the MH )) over my 58. Both were around $800 all together.

Does it have to be in the tank or can it be on top of the tank?

Hmm....that would be my skimmer. I paid $100 for it used. It's an AquaC Remora. My MH lights are actually the most expensive thing I have but I bought an entire aquarium set-up including the the MH lights, 25 gallon aquarium, nice stand, live sand, live rock, corals, heater, power heads, CPR AquaFuge Medium and light, etc for less than $300. So I probably actually only paid $50 for the light once you split up all the stuff that came with the set-up.

Reef Keeper Elite setup was pretty expensive, as were the two Vortech MP40W's. Most expensive piece of livestock was my Emperor Angel at $140.

wow...$69 for a purple tang...great find, mine was $120...had a case of popeye when I first got him, but now is one of my favorite fish.

All my lighting changes have got to be the most expensive...only expensive because I've switched so many times

buy quality from the beginning, it will SAVE you money....any experienced hobbyist will agree

If all my live rock counts as a single inhabitant, that. Freakin crazy, spending that kind of money for algae encrusted dead coral -- particularly when it is so easy to make your own from live coral
