I would go with an I-tech 200 over an ATB. A little cheaper, plus I feel that Tunze has done an excellent job modifying the sicce. ATB or I-tech.

I would go with the ATB, the new octo's are using a new motor & we won't know for awhile how reliable they are going to be. ATB is a proven performer.

I would go ATB 840 or I-Tech200. ATB has a proven track record as well as excellent customer service. There are allot of good reviews on the I-Tech as well.

How is I-tech not comparable? Use practically the same pump. I have seen tat service are about equal, and ATB uses thinner materials. PLus I feel that the tunze pump runs quieter and more effectively than the airstar.

I know this thread was supposed to be about ATB and Octo's but I wanted to comment on the statement above. I do not agree that I-Tech and ATB are not comparable. They are quite similar. Performance wise, I believe they are close. Customer service seems to excellent with both. That said, I would pay more and get an ATB.
The ATB is a more refined product. Yes, I-Tech is built like a tank and craftsmanship is commendable, albiet a little rough around the edges (figuratively and literally). The neck on the ATB is slightly larger, which would be an advantage for a 150Gal heavy stocked system. If your tank was 70 gallons, the slightly smaller neck on the Itech might be helpful. Most importantly to me, the cup attachment of the 840v1.5 is superior to I-Tech's current design. Ease of removal may not be critical to everyone so it is a minor point, but like the ATB better. It is about priorities. Both a are good skimmers. I dont have any experiece with Octopus so I cannot comment. I do consider customer service important, so I tend to choose companies that are known to provide it. Good luck. |
