sump plumbing?'s
I am totally unfamiliar with the world of plumbing and what all items are available and how to assemble all of these PVC pieces and could use a little direction.
1. What is the item with a #1 next to in above picture? 2. What are the names for items used next to #2 3. At the different unions and T's do you just slide the PVC in and use a glue to seal it up? 4. What size PVC pipe would you use to attach to a Mag 7 pump? I don't think check valves have any place in reef plumbing - they're unreliable and there are better ways to prevent back siphoning. #2 looks like a union attached just after the pump. A union is a special fitting with a threaded nut that allows plumbing to be disconnected. It's a very good idea near any hard-plumbed pump or anything else you'll ever want to remove for servicing or cleaning. 3) Yes, for "slip" joints you just cement them together. You can more or less just follow the directions on the can of cement you get - get a cement and primer for PVC from the same aisle you get the fittings from. 4) Danner typically suggests plumbing twice the diameter of the pump's fittings. If I recall, the Mag 7 uses 3/4" fittings, so it should have 1.5" plumbing. The inlet side is far more important than the outlet side. especially if the pump is run submerged, you can drop down to 1" if you want, to save space.

no pic.
Check around in build threads, a lot of them have pics of their sump plumbing. While pvc is great, people have had noise problems if rigid all the way. Most-likely you will want a few hose sections in the pvc to give vibration points, where noise can vibrate out, rathern than creating noise. |

you are looking at it with picasaweb's picture browser. To post a pic, it has to be a ".jpg" address to post as a picture.

Thanks Chief surfer! It worked, I'm not a picture poster. So the way I did it was right click on the pic and then choose properties where It showed the URL then pasted that into the dialog box that came up when I clicked the insert pic button. Is that easiest way to go about it? Last edited by cpittmx; 12/14/2009 at 01:15 PM. |

Generally yes, unless you're using a photo hosting site that provides [ IMG ] tags (like photobucket, etc.).

I just use photobucket for any pictures. It's free and pretty easy to use.

OR if you happen to know all the codes for forums. If you know what "tags" you have on your photo, you can also search google images for your image, and if you find it, click "see full size image" and it will take you to the .jpg address. Then you can copy the address and insert it as.....
[ img ]http://www.xxxxx.com/abcd.jpg [ / img ] with no spaces. |
