water circularion
I have an old Hagen 402 (270gph), a Penguin 550 (135gph) and several others I can't identify - one of which I'm guessing is about 150-175gph and the others less. These PHs work great, so I'd like to use them. How many PHs do I need in a 65g, and which ones - and where located?
BTW I currently have an Eheim 1250. Configurations of tanks as follows: U-tube overflow from DT into 29g sump, then water pumped 4'10" into 30g fuge which gravity feeds back into DT. I'm trying to buy a used 1262 Eheim (900gph), but until I can find one, I'll be using the 1250 ( around 350gph).

Like the configuration a lot. Its really good to have a sump and a separate fuge, especially when the fuge is gravity fed back into the tank.
Your right, an Eheim 1262 would be much better. Your total water flow depends on what you plan on keeping. The total flow takes account for the main pump and powerheads. On the low end 10X total tank volume is really minimum. This would be acceptable for only low flow corals and fish. Like LPS, mushrooms and zoanthids. You would have a little more than 10X with your current stuff. More flow is really a lot better though, not only to keep more kinds of corals and fish, but it keeps detritus, waste and nutrients in suspension so it can be filtered out and so it doesn't settle and cause more waste to build as well. In my 180 tank I have about 30-40X tank volume/hour. Its good to have powerheads that distribute the flow in a wider area. If your using your older powerheads you should point them at each other to create a random flow. Have one on each end pointing towards each other and some on the back wall pointing towards the center or towards a coral that needs some flow. I'd suggest maybe getting some Hydor Koralia #3's or #4's. And also with head loss, the Eheim 1250 pumping 4'10'' through any size tubing will only pump about 150gph, so a new circulation pump is really needed. There are many that are less expensive as Eheim and almost as good on quality. A Mag7 would be a good one. Oceanrunner 2500 is a good one too.
