Can I see pictures of your tek light on legs or hanging over your tank?

Its tough deciding which direction I am going to go in, after thinking I was settled.

The sunpower has tons of juice and may need to be hung higher to keep non sps safe from the excessive light.

I figure the lower cost tek sitting on the tank, or hung nice and low, will have a good amount of light, cost less, and will have fewer issues with glare with it being lower.

So, I am looking for pictures to see how good or bad the tek looks either hanging over or sitting on the tank with its legs.

fyi the tek elite is a no go, at that price Ill just get the sunpower. the tek elite looks like an "in between" fixture, something modded instead of correctly designed from the get go.

If not the lowest it is very close, they may go down 1/4" further.
I a right there with you on mounting lights. I have a 57 gallon rimless tank that is in need of a new light. I like the ATI fixture but have no good way to mount it. I really like how the eco-lamps mount but am leaning towards the new AI LED unit based on the fact that they are dimmable.

gf, funny you mention the 57g, thats what Im waiting to take delivery on. I was hoping the legs wouldnt look to bad sitting on the tank.

How do you think it would look sitting on your trimless tank? Are the legs even able to grip just the glass?

share some pics of that braceless beaut

Here it was empty

I love the look of the clam on fixtures but was having issues with them (melting/exploding).
No, I would not use the tek light on this tank. The legs would work but they are a little bulky and the 4 tube fixture that I have does not really put out that much light.

Nice, have a tank build going on that guy?

I thought the 4 bulber would be underpowered as well. Im planning on running the water level an inch or two lower than standard with my own overflow in place.

Which makes me lean towards the tek 6 bulb unit, thinking it will be plenty of light without being "too much".

sunlight supply sells a hanging kit for their lighting sytems called the sun lift. You pull down on it and the tension pullies raise the lights until you pull down slightly again and it stops, the same to lower it.

Yes, I use the TEK single point hanging kit ~$25. It is easy to move the lamp up and down, the only issue is that the power cables need to be supported to balance the fixture, if not it will tilt backwards.

Get the two-point hanging kit from Sunlight Supply; it works great and looks 10x better than any legs.

What information are you basing this on and what makes you feel its incorrect?

I agree the Tek Elite looks like they just retro'd a fan on there, but it should be a great improvement over the Tek. Between the heat and staining reflectors on the Tek, I would consider something else for a saltwater tank.

The Teks themselves are good looking fixtures, I use one over myplanted, and I use shelf brackets attached to the wall.

I used to own a Powermodule, and my tank is up alot higher than most. Even with the Powermodule hung fairly high and sitting on my couch, the glare was non-existant. Unless you were right beneath it, in line with the reflectors path, there was no glare.

Hey Gotfrogs, where did you get the 57 oceanic? I'm trying to decide on that tank or the new cadlights 50g. Kevin at all about fish has the 57g for $315 and city pets has it for $300.

They are also half the cost of a powermodule, which i think is a big selling point for the elite.

the sunpower is cheaper than the powermodule.

@ liquid,

Ditto what james said. They didnt take the op to design something new and instead just refit their old models. If the price wasnt so near the sunpower it would be higher on the list. I dont think Im going to need super amounts of light, so with some of the price drops on the fanless units it may be a better fit.

What was SLS supposed to do? I mean, how much can you change a T5 light fixture? They are all housed in some sort of aluminum housing, with reflectors & fans. The Elite includes fans & upgraded reflectors over the old TEK. Were you expecting a hover craft T5 fixture?

I think a big selling point for the TEK is it doesn't cost your next born child to purchase it. I think they're upgrades to the Elite are nicely done... though I don't own one. I'm just an outside observer.

This is not correct. I saw this light at RAP in LA, it is completely different inside. There is baffeling to direct the air over the ballasts then across the lamps. Its not the same light simply with a fan at all.

I just bought one. One of two that SLS had left. Pretty stoked to get it set up, going with 4 blue + bulbs, an aquablue special, and fiji purple. Will update with pics
