Sump question.
This wknd I hope to do some MUCH needed cleaning to my sump. I have had a bad cyano and HA putbreak in my sump and I'd like to take it out and clean ALL that stuff out. Pointers?

I want to know if my HA & cyano will release nutrients even if I completely empty my sump and scrub it out. How durable is cyano? Will it withstand the cleaning? Should I use some chemicals?

It sounds like you're going to completely empty the sump. Are you going to remove it as well for the cleaning? If so, I'd suggest giving it a good wash with either vinegar (0-50% dilution) or muriatic acid (80-90% dilution). That should kill off anything that's been growing in there. Just let it dry out completely before refilling. If you really want to be sure, you can add some bleach. In that case, you'll just want to make sure you rinse it very well (until you can no longer smell bleach) and let it air dry completely.
