Cleaning lace rock from freshwater tank

Hello,

Just joined Reef Central and wanted to say hi . Also have a quick question:

Looking to use my lace rock from my cichlid tank in my new fowlr setup. I soaked the rocks in boiling water for about 30 min. Should I go as far as power washing them to get them clean or should it be fine? They do have a little bit of green algae on them.

They'll probably be fine.
I'd let them cycle in the new tank for a few weeks, just keep an eye on the levels for the first month or so.

That algae will probably die off after the rock has been in saltwater for a little while. Like the other poster said, just let it cycle for 4-6 weeks and you should be good.

If you have any other questions this is a pretty good place to get information.

powerwashing will get the algae off. You may be surprised with all the crap that may come out of the inner pores.

What about doing an acid bath?

I did one to all the rock that is now in my tank. Couldn't beleive how dirty it was.

Thanks everyone. If it warms up a little here maybe I'll give them a little power washing.

As for an acid bath, how do you go about doing that?
