Cleaning lace rock from freshwater tank
Hello,
Just joined Reef Central and wanted to say hi . Also have a quick question: Looking to use my lace rock from my cichlid tank in my new fowlr setup. I soaked the rocks in boiling water for about 30 min. Should I go as far as power washing them to get them clean or should it be fine? They do have a little bit of green algae on them. |

They'll probably be fine.
I'd let them cycle in the new tank for a few weeks, just keep an eye on the levels for the first month or so. |

That algae will probably die off after the rock has been in saltwater for a little while. Like the other poster said, just let it cycle for 4-6 weeks and you should be good.
If you have any other questions this is a pretty good place to get information. |

powerwashing will get the algae off. You may be surprised with all the crap that may come out of the inner pores.

What about doing an acid bath?
I did one to all the rock that is now in my tank. Couldn't beleive how dirty it was. |

Thanks everyone. If it warms up a little here maybe I'll give them a little power washing.
As for an acid bath, how do you go about doing that? |
