Bubble Algae?

Dose it have to be introduced to the system or can it grow from just micro bubbles?

It has to be introduced in some way. It might have spores that can become airborne, I suppose. Generally, live rock will come with an array of algae.

I agree it has to be introduced...but with all the rock, frags, ect. we put in our tanks, it's not surprising that just about everyone faces it at one time or another.

Get an emerald crab. They will have it cleaned up in no time.

I think they will get rid of the red ones as well.

Emerald crabs don't always eat bubble algae, and they can become predatory. I got rid of bubble algae in my tanks via nutrient control.

Nutrient control should always be the overall goal. Having livestock that consumes the pest is just a bonus. By controlling the amount of nutrients in our tank we can cut the root of the problem at its source. Look into vodka or a refugium.

vodka should always be the first thing to consider...or at least rum, that is my preference.

j/k, well not really, but, what do you mean vodka?

Thanks.

New tank with with established rock and marco rock. I'm getting micro bubbles from my return and was getting tired of blowing them off of the rock. I drilled my anti siphon holes to high in my return causing the bubbles.
