Question lighting help

I have a 18" deep tank and a 2x150mh+2x130pc's fixture;can I keep sps in the top half w/ success and also how high should I keep the light off the water???

You should be fine.
As far as how far off the tank.. What type of reflectors do you have? do they have a piece of glass protecting the bulbs?

You should be fine keeping sps in the top half and probably even lower for less needy specimens. Are your bulbs shielded? If not you should go at least 8 inches if not higher to avoided splashes. If they are shielded you can run closer but keep an eye on your water temp.

The fixture is an outer orbit w/ the micropro e-balasts; as far as the reflector it is whatever they use. I seems to be real bright and has good coverage.

You can run this a few inches off the aquarium with mounting legs. If you are in the tank a lot and need more room you can hang it higher.

Agreed 6-8 inches off the tank should be fine...
