Umi-Blue Xenia removal / relocation
about a month ago I bought a Tube Worm from Pet Inc... attach to it was some weird looking Xenia.. Didnt pay much attention and just put the tube worm in the tank. The next day I saw one of my Pom Pom crab walking around with the Xenia in his hand, it was a really nice purplish color in the daylight and bluish under actinic.
My pom pom got tired of it and planted it in a VERY high flow area in my tank and it attached.. not growing much though, but anyways after researching, I stumbled on a xenia of the same color and look on Garrett's Acropolis. It's called Umi-Blue Xenia.. Anyways. It's stalk is attach to a really large rock (Cant remove rock from the tank). Any idea how I can take it off so I can put it in an area with less intense flow for it to grow? Basically it's right next to a couple of my SPS with a MP10 pointing straight at it Pic of crab with a bouquet for Blue Xenia |

I use bone cutters to cut the rock, a razor will leave some behind and grow another set. Xenia can get out of control so I cut the rock its self to make sure I have it growing where I want it.

I just use an old pocketknife I don't care about, try to cut off the layer of rock it's attached to, you'll wind up with a few grains and pebbles. Then either glue or rubberband, it'll attach rather soon. Don't cut the xenia. I have some of this too (from pets Inc.) and it's real purty. It's purple pink and blue with a sparkly irridescence.

has yours grown at all? Mine seem to move like 1/4" from its original position and stayed there... no growth at all.
