chaeto during cycle of tank?
Wondering if anyone has used chaeto while the tank went through its cycle.
I'm thinking about putting some in the fuge while my tank runs its cycle, and would like some input, pros and cons I guess. I did a quick search, but web on the phone while at work is the worst

Awesome, thanks for the info. I was thinking it would help keep the algae down, but wasn't sure if running it in the fuge during the cycle would impact anything else.

I think it may make your tank cycle a little slower and be less harsh on any inhabitants.

How would the chaeto slow the process down? (Just curious)

It uses all forms of nitrogen for growth(ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate), limiting the amounts available for bacteria to use, replicate and colonize, thus extending the time to be fully cycled.

No need to feel dumb, It's not exactly a bad thing to extend the cycle and make the ammonia and nitrite spikes less, just takes more patience. When I started my current tank, calupera was the first living thing to go in there. I waited 4 months before I really put anything else in there except base rock and a little live sand to seed.
