Will this work? Glass frag tank build questions.

I have a tank that is 36"x12"x24". It is made from 1/4 inch glass. I'm wondering if I can take it apart and have one side cut so I can lay it on its side and have a shallow frag tank that is 36"x24"x12". Anyone done this? Will it work rimless?

So what is the biggest rimless that could be done with 1/4 glass?

+1

I did the same with 3 45G's. A 3'X1'X2' tank turned into a 3'X2'X1' tank. I braced all of them. I didn't want to tempt fate. They've been up and running for 4 years now.

I doubt there's a real "formula" for rimless tank glass thickness, but hopefully Jim will chime in on that point. But I just have to ask why rimless if this is to be a frag tank?

Just to make it easy. It's not needed for sure, I just thought it would be possible since there is not going to be a lot of force pushing on the glass with it being such a shallow tank. I guess I can make a rim, but don't know how. What should I make that out of?

30" x 30" x 11" with 6mm glass, rimless. Put a 6mm euro in the bottom of the tank, 2" wide. Personally, I would use 9mm glass as the thinnest glass for any rimless tank. But according to the numbers, this is what you can do.

Thanks for all the help.
I now have to figure out how to make a rim. I think I understand how euros are setup but I'll have to do some research. I've never built a tank before and thought it would be acrylic if I ever did.
