chiller?

My tank is about 78 degrees, but my chiller says 74 on it. What is it trying to tell me? I am new to chillers and this isn't my tank.

It sounds like you have your chiller temp set at 74 degrees, which means it will continue to run until the water gets down to that temp. I would adjust it asap

well, hang on a second...
I think more info is needed, why would the chiller setpoint suddenly change? and if it didnt change, why adjust it if it is working properly?
What is the make/model of the chiller? Mine for example displays the actual temperature, not the set temperature. And the chiller temp is about 3 degrees off from my digital thermometer large number front of tank thermometer (notoriously inaccurate).
Is the chiller currently on and displaying 74?
Do you have any independent means of verifying temperature on the tank?
I would not take action until you can figure out if there is a problem.

my actual temp is 77, but my chiller says 74. I can't find the brand name, but if it is at 77 it should be fine right?

I think it should be fine assuming the chiller is cycling on and off normally to maintain that temp (most chillers have a two degree band unless the end user changed it).
Keep an eye on it for a while and make sure it is properly cycling as it needs to be, if it is, I wouldnt be concerned about it.
FWIW, my chiller tells me the temp is 71-72 all the time and my other thermometer says 74-75, and the chiller is more accurate.

Need to know the brand of your chiller. It is either telling you that it is reading the current tank temperature as 74F or that it is trying to cool your tank to 74F.
