This is an area that has supporters on both sides. Both sides have good reasons why they prefer their depth. I currently have a 3-4" sand bed in the main display and I'm adding a remote deep sand bed in a second sump.

If your not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Ditto on what MandM said. There are views from all sides, as well as cons and pros.

I run a 1.5"-2" sandbed in the DT, and a 5"-6" sandbed in my fuge.

If your going to have a fuge, I would recommend the same as I am doing. If not, then start off as MandD said with a DSB in the DT.

Make sure to read up on which way you go, so you know what to expect as well as how to get the most from it.

Well, after your tank cycles, buy a CUC (Clean Up Crew) either from your LFS or online. If your not happy with them, leave them in there (they are going to clean anyways) and then there are several sand sifting fish to choose from.
