Re:MH pendant
I would spend the extra $30 and get the 150 watt light

Not only that, but bulb choices will be a lot better and easier to find locally if you go with the 150w. If you want a 14K look, order his 20ks, they look a little closer to a phoenix then say an ushio 20K. I'd also maybe order a spare bulb too, his are cheap as dirt and aren't bad bulbs really. I've had several of his fixtures and every electronic ballast of his has caused me problems on channel 3 of all my tvs, easily fixed with a cheap signal amplifier, just something to keep in mind.

I got a few questions about the bulbs, I'm a newbie so I'm hoping for some enlightenment, what are the different between the 14k,20k, and so on I know its the spectrum or kelvin measurement but how do I go about choosing it for corals that I wanna keep say if I wanna keep clams and sps. Will choosing that lighting for that effect the lps corals? Or just put those at a lower level of the tank. Thanks

I did some calculations, and a 150w MH running 8 hours a day comes out to 96kwh per month. Now Excel charges $0.12/kwh so thats $11.52 per month. Does that seem right?

A higher kelvin bulb(20K) usually has a lower PAR rating than say a lower kelvin bulb(10K). The higher the kelvin the bluer the bulb will be. It comes down to personal prefference on what you want. A lot of folks go with a 14K bulb to get the middle of the road bulb. Good growth and good color. You can always add some supplemental actinic bilbs to get a bluer look.

The 70 watt bulb would be fine for a lot of corals, but maybe not the most light-demanding animals, IME. I put a 175 W over my 20g. It was an expensive fixture, though, a LumenMax.

I think that 2 T5 bulbs with good reflectors should be okay for a few well-placed high-light SPS.
