Question Sump Question

Okay i have a 40 gal breeder with 15 gal sump and struggling with the overflow box. Im always trying to get it to flow at the same pace as the pump. So i thought maybe i could just get another pump to bring the water down to the sump instead of an overflow box?? Would this work?? Or not?

No, don't do that. Matching the speed of the pumps over time is not possible.

If the tank has autotopoff, the overflow box shouldn't need adjustment. Is the problem evaporation?

The easier way to fix this problem is put a ball valve in the return line then you can adjust the flow rate. there.... thank you thank you very much...

Also you can tee off the discharge side and install a ball valve. That way you wont increase the output pressure, you just dump some of the water back into the sump. Kind of like recirculating it. Maybe even route it to somthing benifitial like a refugium or something.

A gate valve might have less problems over the long run versus a ball valve which tend to be very hard to adjust after a while... HTH
