how should my skimate look and consistancy

i just got my css going its a 220 and i was wondering if any one had some pointers ask some qiestion ar make a statement just need some direction please help

That looks pretty dang good to me! I try to keep mine to where every 3 days I have about an inch or inch and a half of skimmate in the collection cup and like yours, you cannot see through it. Sorta like a thick muddy cake in the neck of the collection cup and thick sewage like liquid in the collection cup.

How long as this been running in this pic? Meaning how long since the time the collection cup was clean has this skimmer been running to collect this much junk?

tough direction, and with the sun coming in through the blinds to tell exactly, but that looks pretty dark. Looks very dry. It's definitely pulling tho. If you can see through it, and it looks tea-colored it might be a little wet, if it's thick and clumpy and you can't see ANYTHING, you're skimming very dry. Nothing wrong with that.

It might be breaking in still, might take a while to really gauge where you need it set.

I think that is the most important question. The skimmate looks good IMO, but if it took a heavily stocked tank three weeks to produce it, I recant my statement

its been there since saturday 1/09/10 ive emtied it twice but i think it was wet it had also over flowed once but ive since fixed that hadnt happened since and ive also cleaned it on sunday wasnt as dark though

oh and theres 5 fish it hasnt had a skimer for the 4 months ive had this tank but started with a 20 gal that i transfered everything from for 4 months prior note that all the live stalk wasnt in that tank i do water changes 10 gal once a week
