-Transitioning Fresh to Salt-
As a new member to this forum i just wanted to get some ideas on setting up a nano reef tank. I been raising freshwater fish for 10 years plus and never find interest in saltwater because of all the people who scared me away to do so. Always telling me that its a lot of work, equipment is pricey, and fish dies easily. I guess it just turn me away from the route. Recently, i ran into a fish enthusiastic hobbyist who told me i should try it out so here i am. Asking these silly newbie question but everyone has to start somewhere to get a stepping stone.
Here goes some of my questions: Ill just end with these question and continue as i progress in the set up. Any feed back will be very appreciated. Thanks, Nova- |

Live rock will provide plenty of filtration. For that size tank, that's all that's needed. Live rock is picked mostly on esthetics. Any type is fine. Live rock doesn't need light to live, but coralline will do better with 6-8 hours a day of light.
A bit of sand for looks would be fine. Crushed coral becomes a mess. I'd look for a small PC or T5 fixture. Even 50 watts would be plenty of light for soft corals.

Bertoni,
I appreciate the input. I have to check with the locals to see what goods people have for grabs. Most definitely going with the sand, i had crush coral in my cichlid tank before but it did not really look as nice. Nova- |
