Help Metal Halide Problem
Hi
I am new to this site, I am just starting out keeping marine fish etc and am slowly assembling all the components etc required for a reef setup. The reason for posting now is that I have recently bought a 150w metal halide fitting from a lighting supplier and a 14000k bulb from a marine store, I have plugged in the light to perform a test run and the following happens, The light switches off periodically on its own and after about 10-15 sec will start up again and will stay on for about 10min before switching off again. The fitting is located inside the hood and no fans are connected. Could someone help me as to why this is happening. Many Thanks |

Where do you have the ballast? Is it getting air circulation around it? Sounds to me like a thermal switch is cutting in (turning the ballast/bulb OFF) due to high heat.

Did you just buy it brand new or used?

The light is brand new and is a complete unit with integral balast usually used for external car parks etc etc or internal halls etc etc, it is waterproof and rated to 150w, I have a 14000k 150 watt lamp in it, There is no air corculation in the hood however i have left the door to the hood open
