sensor & heater placement
Mapping out the placement of equipment under the tank (e.g. sump/refugium, reactors, dryers, ozone, heaters, etc.
Since I am new to all this, where do people typically place the probes to measure the following; pH, ORP, temperature, salinity? In the return section of the sump? Similarly, do heaters go into the return section as well? Also, where would one place the returns to the sump from a phosphate reactor and a calcuim reactor? |

The probes should be kept in the dark, so that they don't get coated with microalgae. The heaters can go wherever you want, although some people, including me, keep one in the display tank in case the sump pump fails. That means keeping some sort of controller in the display tank, too.
I would plumb the phosphate and calcium reactors out of and back into the same section of the sump. The refugium, if there is one, is fine. Otherwise, anywhere there's enough water for the input is fine.

I was thinking that the sump is going to be dark (not using the refugium for now, so should all the probes go in the sump area or in the return area?

The sump is fine. I suspect the return area would be okay, too.
