online ordering help
I wasnt really sure where to put this thread so I decided to put it here knowing it would get some attention. I jsut started my third tank and right now the only thing I have in it is corals and live rock but NO FISH. Unfortunitly the problem Im having is my lfs doesnt carry the fish I want and it literaly almost takes me and arm and a leg to get them to order them becuase they forget so often. My question is is there a problem with ordering fish online myself. Im a little sletchy about it because I do not have a QT tank to put them in once they arrive. I know that If I do this I definitly need to look for the store that has a arrive alive guarentee and a 15 day after that. Would It be an issue about not having a QT tank though since I have no fish in my tank yet and only corals live rock and 2 shrimp. Any insight on this matter is welcome.

I've ordered from six or seven online stores. Liveaquaria is probably my favorite, but I've had good results with Vivid Aquariums and Blue Zoo Aquatics as well.

I too have ordered lots of stuff online with very good results...a QT tank is a very good investment...that said, a great many people don't have one...it's a little bit like playing Russian roulette however...it's much easier to deal with pests or diseases in a QT tank.

+1 to all of that, I've been happy with all those companies. I think not having a QT is an issue wherever you're buying from, even at the LFS there's no guarantee.

What kind of fish are you wanting? The biggest problem with ordering "rare" fish online is that they generally do no come with the arrive alive guarantee that the more common fish do. Sometimes this can be because they ship poorly, but often it is just because of te value of the fish. Most often I have found if the fish is upwards of $100, it probably doesn't come with a guarantee.

Online
I would not order that particular firefish online. Firefish ship poorly and have a high mortality rate after shipping. I would wait for your LFS to get it for you so you can see that it is healthy and eating. That is one of the more expensive firefish as well.
Most other fish I would not have a problem ordering online, with any of the sites listed above. |
