Red Tree Sponge-how do I attach it?

I just got a red tree sponge and its not attached to rock or anything. How do I attach it? Do I just glue it to a rock or what?

Thanks,
~Jen

I have used super glue gel on sponges. After about 2 weeks it will fall off. I haven't found a good way.

Where ever you add glue will die. Just hope the dead tissue doesn't spread.

return the sponge and demand a refund. Petland shouldn't be selling these things.

Can i ask why? Are sponges hard to take care of or is there another reason?

they die in aquariums and pollute your tank.

Any idea what genus (family) your sponge is from?

no, I have no idea. It was just sold as a "red tree sponge". I'm new to this hobby and this is the first sponge I have ever bought.

I was told that it would be ok for my tank just to be careful not to expose it to air. How would I tell if it starts dying?

welcome to reefkeeping.

Not ALL sponges will die in a reef aquarium but your "red tree sponge" will.
The best thing for your reef aquarium is to remove it ASAP.

The best sponges to grow in a reef aquarium occur as hitch hikers on good quality liverock.

IF you actually listen to my advice I KNOW your reef aquarium will be better off for it.

sorry. I've been married with kids for a long time and it seems like no one ever listens to me anymore.

Yea, I can definitely say that this was an impulse buy and now I am having a hard time getting rid of this thing. Ugh, still waiting for the manager to call me back. In the meantime I have called a few places just in case I can't return it and no one will take it. One LFS said that they have a hard time keeping them alive therefore they do not even deal with sponges.

IMO There is no way that Petland is going to return your money.
