Non Filer Sock Users
So im having some trouble. I work some long hours, and travel a bit. So it makes it hard for me to replace filter socks. It usually takes me a week or so before I can change it out. Im thinking I may just keep it off my system for a while. Maybe it will keep my nitrates down a tad. tank looks good, just nitrates get high when I leave it on too long. So I nd up changing it and doing a water change.
Anyone else not use a filter sock??

I do not use one on my SPS system. The sump is such that all of the deitrus settles in between the baffles so that I can siphon it out from there.

wet/dry shop vac to get the dirty dirty out, or maybe try putting a small fan/pump in the sump to keep the poo suspended for the skimmer to take care of it.

I stopped using filter socks over a year ago. Initially, the particulate matter had increased a bit, but it went back to being as minimal as when I was using a filter sock. One less thing to clean, on less chore to do, tank still happy.
