sump question

Im building a 50 gallon sump,im putting in a refugium thats 20 in x 14 in,do i still need live rock in my sump? The water will come from the DT into a four inch chamber,i was thinking about maybe filling it with bio balls, then a 10 inch chamber for my skimmer, then the refugium and thru a bubble trap then a return area and back to the tank, another question is should it go thru the refugium first then be skimmed or skimmed and thru the refugium? Thanks in advance.

Paul

Do you have an adequate amount of rock in your display tank? If so, then extra rock in the sump may not be needed if you could use the space for something else, but if you have plenty of space then some extra rock might be nice.

And I think you are about to get some responses about why you should avoid bio balls.

I use filter sock, but have to clean or change it every 3 to 4 days.
