coloring up acros

I have a question regarding various colors from acros. My tank is a 180 gallon with 400 watt 20k radiums and vho actinics. My tank is very stable with alk around 10 and calc 400. Water changes every month. My qustion I cant get real deep purple colors from acros. I have given fellow members pieces that turn deep purple.. I have a tricolor acro that has a OKAY purple color. I see it in my friends tank and it turns to a incredible deep purple. Some corals keep nicer colors in my tank and other colors look better in his. Any thought on the reason this happens. Are there difference ways of getting better colors, for example does higher amounts of magnesium or iodide bring out different colors in some acros? I also run rowaphos and feed my fish alot. I always heard purple colors are hard to get.
