Bulkhead size / Pump Size questions
So I am setting up a 40G breeder, with a Sump between 20-30g depending on what fits underneath.
It has 3 holes drilled with bulkheads already in place behind a glass overflow box... To try and figure out my bulkhead size (not imprinted on the plastic) i figured I would measure the bottom (see picture) for bulkhead size, is that right? If the above measurment concept is right, I have 3 bulkheads behind their and there diameters on the bottom are below: The two outer bulkheads (bottom diameter measured) are 1.5" and the middle bulkhead between those two is 1.25" Holes: [ 1.5" 1.25" 1.5" ] I use the two 1.5" holes for draining down to my sump, and the 1.25" hole for the return? I have a Mag 12 for this tank, does that work out and sound ok? |

You need to use the inside diameter to determine the amount of flow. Also, you'll need to know the vertical distance to compute the head loss for the pump, as well as using the manufacturer's data on the pump's rated flow for that distance. If there are a lot of elbow joints in the line, those can be added as well.
