Please recommend a RO/DI
Forgive me, I know very little about plumbing.
We rent and our landlord doesn't really want us messing with the pipes. I was planning on buying a RO system that could hook up to the washer hookup (I assume there's some sort of Y valve for this). Problem is we would also like to use this RO system for drinking water. Is a system without a pressurized tank going to be fast enough to fill up a glass of water on demand? Is there just going to be a hose coming out that I fill up my cup with? That seems kind of nasty but then again I don't have any where in my laundry room to set up a faucet. I was thinking about this system http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/...er-system.html but I was wondering if I could just leave the faucet sitting there on a counter or something. Does it have to be mounted? Thank you so much and I apologize if I sound silly, I have to take painkillers at night and they make me a bit goofy. Last edited by BIGTEXT; 02/04/2010 at 11:57 PM. |

That unit is the step up from the unit that i purchased and i love it. I don't think you would be happy with the rate the RO would fill up your glass and I am not experienced with pressurized tanks so cannot help you there. These units can be hooked up almost anywhere. Currently mine is hooked up under the sink and a bypass (comes with the kit) running off the cold water to my unit. I flip a switch and it goes.

There are some units that have attachments that allow you to hookup the unit to a garden hose. That might be an option if your landlord doesn't want you messing with anything inside.

I have the BRS cloramines unit and added the drinking water reservoir. It is top notch... fittings.. components.. everything.
Between BRS's pre-assembly of the main unit and their DIY videos I was able to get get the drinking water tank and bypass hooked up and running properly in no time. Suggest you check the water report from your local municipality... if your water has chloramines in it you may want to get the chloramines specific model. I believe the difference is it has a special carbon filter vs. a standard on the normal units. Edit: You''ll need the pressurized tank otherwise you'll be standing there 5 mins for each glass of water. Last edited by ChuckG; 02/05/2010 at 12:24 AM. Reason: additional info |
