Sump chamber advice
Hi All!
I am in the process of building a 55g sump / refugium and I am trying to decide how big each of the chambers should be. I was hoping that I could gather some ideas by polling the audience. I have a MRC-2R Recirculating protein skimmer and I am planning to install it in an "out of sump" configuration. I also have an Eheim 1262 pump that I am planning to use as a return pump for my 155 gallon display aquarium. The sump tank is a standard 55 gallon all glass aquarium and measures 48 x 13 x 20. Here is my idea: Skimmer chamber: 8" Return pump chamber: 8" Refugium chamber: 30" The remaining 2" will be consumed by the bubble trap baffles. I would like to add an ATO (auto top off) system and controller probes to the sump at some point as well, so I am trying to size the chambers appropriately for future expansion. Does anyone see any problems with the configuration above? or have any comments or suggestions? Thanks in advance! |

I would think about making your skimmer section bigger.... I know you are using an out of sump skimmer now... but for the future you may one day want an in sump.... so I'd go to 10 or 12 inches for the skimmer section.... as a skimmer for a 155 can be kinda big...
If you are absolutely sure you'll NEVER use an in sump.... then thats looks good to me!!!
