need help setting up a clean up 75 skimmer

I have a clean up 75 skimmer and i am having trouble setting it up it is in the sump when i turn it on i set the water line in the skimmer to where it says it should be but the cup just fills up with water then i have to dump it after 10-15 minutes, how long before i notice the skimmer doing anything useful and i dont have to keep dumping tank water back into the sump? or am i doing something wrong ?

Thanks, Ryan

I'm not familiar with this skimmer but as a general rule try setting the water level as low as possible in the skimmer for a week or so to let is break in. After that try making small adjustments till you find the sweet spot.

It could be in too deep of water.

A pic is going to be helpful here.

im pretty sure the water level adjustment is set as low as it goes right now and it foams up into the collection cup but then the foam turns back into water and fills the cup up its in my sump and not making a mess should i just leave it alone and let it run?

Its only in about 5 inches of water

Make sure the venturi is not clogged. This will often cause the very problem you are experiencing.

Another question i have is could this overflow problem have anything to do with the tank still cycling? its coming close to the end of the cycle which is why i started running it, just curious if it could have anything do to with that?
