Banded trochus snails are pretty good at righting themselves, and given time they can actually start to reproduce.

My trochus and astreas seem to have no issues at all crossing sandbeds and not falling over. My ceriths however, seem to fall off the glass all the time then sit there scared in their shell upside down for hours on end.

I have some of each in my system and find it to work best.
Astrea
Trochus
Cerith
Nassarius
Stomatella (these guys rock, they are all foot!)

I have trochus - doing their job on the rockwork, flip themselves plus they're hermit proof
Stomatella - came with the LR and reproduce, so why not.. never seen one on their back
nassarius for aerating the sand bed and uneaten food. no flipping required
cerith, they clean up okay, but they always fall on their backs

A couple of Trochus and a couple of cerith might be a fine starting point.

Are you sure they died because they couldn't get back up, even though they were healthy? I have watched these types of snails for a while, and they seem to be able to do that. I think most snails die of starvation or various stressors from transportation.

my ceriths always seemed to be alright on their own. of course, when they faced off against hermits they did tend to lose out but aside from that they were model citizens with the ability to take care of themselves.
