2nd Hermet crab dead in two weeks!

Ok, so I have in my tank a arrow crab, porcelin crab (sorry about spelling), a Nemo, Sand sifter, & sally light foot crab. I had a regualr hermit crab that I found its body on the bottom of the taken eaten and then after that went and got a red tip mexican hermet crab. I just found its body on the tank again as if it was ripped out of its shell. I do have bigger shells for them to move into. What could be eating them? Are they being killed when they are moving from shell to shell?

How did you acclimate them?

Some creatures are more sensitive to water chemistry changes then others.

Float them in the bag to equalize temp best you can then empty the contents into a bucket. Use an airline tube to start a siphon from the display. Slowly add your tank water to the bucket. Eventually you have equalized the new additions water to your tank water. Stress is minimized.

How are you measuring salinity?

What is your temp?

Sometimes the creature has already been doomed by the way it was collected or handled prior to you receiving it.

im not sure if hermit carbs molt like shrimps do. But one day i found some hermit crab legs on the sand bed. I thought my one and only hermit crab had died and said oh well. A few days went by and I saw him again on a rock. I know what i pulled out was some dead hermit crab legs. Maybe my one and only hermit crab molted? idk

Yes, hermits molt; it can be hard to tell the difference between a dead hermit and a molt.

I did do that sat the bag in water for 30 mins then every 15 mins placed tank water in bag, did that 3 times. Water temp is at 77.4, salinity meaning test strips to test the No and Ph? If so I am using test strips, I do have to say they seem to be very inaccurate they say my No3 levels is at toxic levels, but I have new stuff growing and my sally light foot just molted last week. I also have Algone that I have in my filter system that controls the No levels. Have you heard of it? I also have a plant in the tank that is also to help out with the No levels. It is long green and has 4 roots on it they are red, I forgot the name of it.

Salinity is to measure how salty your water is. Go get yourself a refractometer. Stay away from those hydrometer as they are totally inaccurate. Test strips are worthless. Get yourself some salifert test or at least maybe api test kit.
