Looking for input on this corraline scraper
OK. I'm tired of the rediculous amount of corraline algea growing on my glass and how pathetic my long arm scraper is at removing it. I've broken my (cheap) long arm scraper twice now and I need to invest in a razor blade scraper that I can use on my magnetic cleaner.
Does anyone have any experience with this "Easy Blade Algea Scraper"?? http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/...ers-black.html I'm looking to buy a tiger shark magnetic cleaner and I really need a razor attachement for scraping the corraline as well. Anyone have suggestions for a better type of razor blade attachment for scraping corraline?? Thanks!! Jeremy |

The easy blade works amazingly well. It's easily worth it's small price and I can't imagine using a mag-float without one.

I have one like that and it seems to work fine as long as you use it regularly instead of waiting till it gets so thick.

I had one on a glass tank and was happy with it. Too bad it isn't acrylic safe

Here's a video of it working, you can see how much less effort it takes compared to scrapers on wands.

I love mine and use it for scraping the front and side panels that I can easily reach. When I have the canopy off and want to scrape the back glass, I use a window scraper with a 5" blade that I picked up at the hardware store. I only use that because I can't reach the back side of the tank with my magfloat/EZ scraper.

Works great! I bought mine as an all in one unit from PA a few years back and it is one of the best things I ever bought. For glass use only don't use on acrylic. PA has them as well and the have the replacement blades also.

Why do you let coralline algae form like that?
Running the magnet and scraping the sand line takes 3 minutes once a week. Once coraline grows like that on any tank your chances of scratching go up considerably.

I don't ever let mine get like what is in the video. But the advatage of the blade system is that it works very well scraping right up to the silicone edges in thetank. This works especially in corners with little effort. A standard algae magnet can sometimes be a pian in the corners and right up against the silicone.

Ok good to hear.
Be careful if you attach it to your magnet. They can trap grains of sand behind the blade and as you pull back it drags the sand across the glass leaving a scratch. Any you said you broke the blade on your scrapper!?!?! what color is the blade? If this is a glass tank the blade should be yellow and metal. If it is red and plastic it is meant for acrylic and much much harder to use. Worthless on glass if its red.

the best one I have ever found is a Aqua Medic algae scrapper. You can also screw in a handle for deeper tanks. The blades are replaceable.

This is the peice of junk I broke two or three times.
http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.co...6&pcatid=12756 I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I don't know that the aquamedic is right for me. I'm looking for something I can attach to my magnet cleaner. Thanks though! Jeremy |

I built my own. Screwed a kent marine metal blade scraper to the side of a mag float. Been working great for years.

OMG!!!
Just got the easy blade scraper today. It took about 10 seconds to glue it onto my magfloat and about a minute to clean off the corraline from the areas I had trouble reaching with my long arm scraper or the areas I normally clean by sticking my whole arm in the tank with a putty knife and scraping it that way. Best $13 I've ever spent!! Jeremy |
